Del Ray’s Got Talent…and Fashion at the last First Thursday for 2014

Don’t miss the last First Thursday of the year this coming Thursday, Sept. 4th. Join the Del Ray Business Association for an evening of fashion, talent and fun,

Local merchants Amalgamated, Gossip on 23rd, Kiskadee, LuLu Lemon for Mind the Mat, Purple Goose and Salon Bisoux will style and coiffe our models for the runway show. And what’s a model without her canine sidekick? A Dog’s Best Friend has some surprises in store proving that canines + fashion = fun!

The Kate Moran Band will kick-off the evening promptly at 6 pm, and headline the talent portion of the evening following the runway show. Martha Krabill, singer in The Reflex ultimate 80’s band, will be a siren you won’t want to miss (you’ve seen her on American Idol Season 3). Our own Rayvonne Lewis will also be with us delighting the audience with his smooth dance moves. There may also may have some surprise walk-ons from some of our local politicians.

As in past events, they are asking for audience participation. Join us by wearing your favorite ensemble, Sunday best, high couture, drag attire, or even costume and you too may end up on the runway toward the end of the evening!

They are also asking for donations of new or gently used coats that will be put to good use by one of our favorite local charities, ALIVE. And be sure and check out additional activities that will be taking place up and down the Avenue.

So mark your calendars and we’ll see you this Thursday, September 4 th from 6 pm to 8 pm on the catwalk, located at Mt. Vernon & E. Oxford Avenues!

These are a few of my favorite things!

What better day than to start a new blog series of ‘My Favorite Things’ in our neighborhood than Christmas Eve? These things don’t have to be big but they’re the things that make our community such a special place to be raising our kids!

LETTERS TO SANTA AT PURPLE GOOSE

Years ago Purple Goose started the tradition of being a drop off point for letters to Santa. Their mailbox disappeared last year but they continued the tradition this year. Santa replies to each letter that is dropped off!

Where Should President Obama Shop?

There’s been talk of the Obama family getting out to do some holiday shopping on Small Business Saturday in the neighborhood. There are lots of places on the Avenue to scoop up great items for Sasha & Malia who are quickly growing before our eyes from adorable kids into beautiful young women! But what about the younger kids and babies on the Obama’s Christmas list? Well no need to fret POTUS! We’ve got you covered!

Obama will probably sigh in agreement that alas his girls have outgrown Bellies and Babies Consignment Boutique but perhaps this is the perfect spot for friends and family members with newborns. There’s always a terrific selection of consignment clothing for kids from newborn to around age five or six.

POTUS won’t want to miss Kiskadee for a great gift for Michelle. Their selection of boutique designer women’s clothing is amazing. But there are also some adorable gift items for kids that can be found upstairs! Kiskadee has been my neighborhood go to for the best fashions and accessories.

My all time favorite gift buying spot in Del Ray is Show of Hands. Show of Hands showcases a diversity of local artists by providing them with a venue to showcase and sell their unique, handcrafted artwork. There’s something for everyone on your list including your Del Ray Baby!They will have their seasonal promotion “Spend $100 and get $10” cards. For every $100 spent in the shop they will give you a $10 gift certificate. The cards are available until December 31, but the great thing is the $10 gift certificates never expire.

Not sure what to give? Chocolate is always the answer! My babies have loved picking up sweet treats from Artfully Chocolate as long as they can remember! Artfully Chocolate is the area’s first cocoa bar with a vibrant and colorful art gallery. They feature artisinal chocolates and sweet treats that everyone will savor.

A Toast to Fashion – A perfect girl’s night out!

I know you’re like me and you could use a night out with your girl friends! Come join the The Junior Friends of The Campagna Center at the 14th Annual Toast to Fashion, which will take place on Thursday, March 14th from 6:30 -10 pm at Belle Haven Country Club. This annual event combines a fashion show, marketplace, raffle, and cocktail reception. For the third year, ABC-7/WJLA’s Britt McHenry will serve as emcee. Proceeds from this event help support programs of The Campagna Center
